+ JEMS Master Notes: Semi-Indulgent Notes. It is the rare show indeed when no less than three-quarters of JEMS are in attendance together, but that was the case for both nights of Springsteen LA 2012. In fact, any show with J, Persic and BW in the same room at the same time is the Tapers Hall of Fame equivalent of having Mantle, Mays and Aaron all eating at the same restaurant. When is the groundbreaking for the Tapers Hall anyway? We've got first-ballot guys waiting to be enshrined. The ticket gods (well, goddess in this case) smiled brightly this night and we were as close to the stage as we could be without standing on it. With our beloved Nak 700s seeking care and repair, the backup Nak 300 cardioids came in off the bench and held their own, with a very good pull that benefits from our proximity to the PA and a mostly quiet crowd around us. The recording is notable for really capturing the shimmer of Max Weinberg's cymbals you hear in the room but not always in the bits. Samples provided. The set itself has been written about elsewhere, but the highlights of an overall fine show were the triple play of "Something in the Night" (tour debut) into "Candy's Room" into "She's the One" and the one-off encore cover of "California Sun," recorded by lots of folks including the Ramones. Unfortunately, the taping gods were not shining on us Night 2 as we had some technical difficulties and a show that is still stuck on the Flash card. But for now, enjoy night one. S, we flew the missing man formation for ya. BK for JEMS. || Busman-modified Nakamichi 300s > Naiant custom battery box > Olympus ; LS-10 digital recorder (24/96) > wav (24/96) > wav (16/44) > flac + Brucebase (26.04.2012): This 2 hours 46 minutes show sees a not so surprising guest appearance by Tom Morello on several songs, one of which is the tour premiere of "The Ghost Of Tom Joad". "California Sun" is the third cover performed during the Wrecking Ball tour so far. Originally credited to Henry Glover and Morris Levy, the surf classic has been covered by many artists including The Rivieras and Dick Dale. Springsteen gives a shout out to Dick Dale during "Paradise By The C" at the Roxy Theatre in 1978. Set also features a landmark - the 1000th recorded performance of "The Promised Land". Bruce dances with his youngest sister Pamela during "Dancing In The Dark", and Patti is present again after a absence of five shows. |
