+  More Info: Orange is a new CD-R label. In 2000 they released this cd set, which is said to be the best release from that year. It is based on the officially released box set Live 1975-85. All four cd's contain soundboard recordings. Some of them have never before been released in this quality. Some of them were even unknown to exist until they were released on this cd set.

The fist cd starts with two songs from the Hammersmith Odeon in London, recorded on 18-11-1975. (Bruce's first show in Europe ever). They are It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City and The E Street Shuffle in the slow arrangement. These two songs were previously uncirculated in this quality. Next is Prove It All Night with a great long guitar intro. The last three songs from this disc are Thunder Road, Jungleland and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Those three songs were taken from the concert at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco the day after the famous concert on 15-12-1978. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town has one of the longest intro story ever used on this song.

The second disc covers the period from 1980 to 1985. The highlights on this disc are Glory Days (recorded at the Brendan Byrne Arena in NJ), a previously uncirculated Man At The Top
from 1985 and a very thrilling version of Stolen Car, also from 1985. The last two songs on this cd are Stand On It and Janey Don't You Lose Heart.

Disc Three contains recordings all made during the Tunnel Of Love Express Tour. Eight of the nine songs on this disc are taken from the show in Copenhagen on 25-7-1988. They include Chimes Of Freedom, Paradise By The "C", Who Do You Love/She's The One and I'm A Coward. It also contains the rockabilly version of You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch).

Disc Four opens with the introduction to Follow That Dream. Other songs featured are Sweet Soul Music, Raise Your Hand and Twist And Shout. All songs on this disc were taken from the concert in Basel, Switserland on 14-7-1988.

With this cd set comes a great booklet with information about the shows where the songs were played and some nice pictures of Bruce and the E Street Band. The sound quality varies from good to very good. The last two discs sounds pretty flat
with not much audience sound.

+ Brucebase (16.04.2012): Audience tape (by Bakerstuff) and audience shot DVD/Blu-ray. Bruce and band, once again without Patti, enter the stage to the theme of "The Magnificent Seven". Albany sees three tour premieres. A solo acoustic version of "Janey, Don't You Lose Heart" is played by sign request - "We haven't played this one in a long time. This is for Molly, in memory of her mom Jane." In the encores Molly was pulled on stage to dance with Bruce. "Two Hearts", "The River", "American Skin (41 Shots)" and "Sherry Darling" were all on the setlist, but not played

  • Reading Time

The E Street Band took the Times Union Center stage to the theme from The Magnificent Seven, Springsteen hollering "Albany! Prepare to be transformed!" before slamming into a lights-up "Badlands" to open the show. Along the way, Bruce talked about another local transformation, that of the American Hockey League team the Albany River Rats into the Albany Devils. "Albany River Rats — that's a name from a Bruce Springsteen song!" He tried out a lyric — "Meet the Albany River Rats at midnight... somewhere..." and called for the team to "Change it back!"

It was a Born in the U.S.A. kind of night, with all three tour debuts coming from the 1984-85 era, starting with "Darlington County." "Jack of All Trades" once again began a thematic trio, this time followed by Born in the U.S.A. outtake "Murder Incorporated" and the premiere of "Downbound Train." It was a powerful trifecta — remarkable not only for the number of '84 songs packed so early in the set, but also for underlining just how much of Springsteen's catalog fits so well with this tour and its focus on working people going through hard times. That famously being his wheelhouse, there's virtually an endless supply of songs Bruce could choose from — it's good to see him continue to tap in and mix it up.

"Murder Inc." was just the kind of guitar fest you want it to be, Nils taking the first solo, Bruce taking the next one and passing it off to Stevie, resulting in a mean guitar duel between the two. "Downbound Train" was particularly strong, Bruce feeling it and delivering it, getting inside it rather than just skimming along the surface (can we put that teleprompter "controversy" to rest now, please?). As with "Darlington," the horns added another level here, too.

The biggest BUSA treat of the night came after the "Apollo Medley," as Springsteen pulled a sign from the pit and called an audible. "We haven't played this in a long time," he said while strumming the chords, and he decided to go it alone for "I'm Goin' Down" B-side "Janey Don't You Lose Heart." He added a dedication: "This is for Molly, in memory of her mom, Jane." A poignant moment came at the end of the solo acoustic surprise, as Bruce called for a sing-along: "Everybody one time with Molly." He channeled that emotion into the "Backstreets" that followed; like "Downbound Train," there was nothing rote about it, Bruce living out the song in his delivery.

Patti remains absent. On the setlist but not played: "Two Hearts," The River," "American Skin (41 Shots)," and, as a possible post-"Tenth Avenue" bonus, "Sherry Darling." Tonight was probably a snot-rocket record for the tour so far, though if Bruce was feeling under the weather, you wouldn't have known it from his vocals or his energy level.  - Backstreets 2012 Setlist

+ Brucebase (12.04.2012): Audience tape (by Neo). A 3 hours 11 minutes show in Auburn Hills sees the tour premieres of "Youngstown" and "Incident on 57th Street". Curiously Bruce decides to skip the guitar solo at the end of "Incident", instead signaling to Roy Bittan to play the piano coda and end the song. Patti Scialfa is not present: perhaps not coincidentally, Easy Money is dropped for the first time of the tour. According to Bruce she had to make sure the kids were taking their own drugs. "I love you, old Michigan, and I know where the fuck I am!", refers to the Auburn Hills show of late 2009 when Bruce several times mistakenly called out Ohio instead of Michigan. According to reports, the lengthy soundcheck included extensive rehearsals of Marvin Gaye's "Can I Get A Witness".

+ Neo Notes: I screwed up and arrived at the venue too late to participate in the lottery. If I'd gotten into the pit I wouldn't have recorded so in a sense my loss is your gain. This recording has a bit more crowd noise in it than I would have liked. I was dead center on the floor amongst a group of twenty-somethings and they were really into it so it is what it is. I always like seeing the next generation of fans at these shows and this recording conveys some of the excitement of being in the middle of an enthusiastic crowd. I won't be able to make the upcoming Cleveland show so hopefully another midwest taper will answer the call. OK to repost on other torrent sites, ABMS, etc. It would be nice if somebody could do some artwork for this and post it. || Audio Technica AT-853 Cardioids > Battery Box > Edirol R-09 > Adobe Audition > Flac frontend. Recorded dead center of the main GA area.
